Berkley Man Arraigned in Murder of Wareham Man

BROCKTON – A Berkley man has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he shot and killed a man in his Wareham home, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh announced today.

John Wittey (DOB: 11/01/45) of Berkley was arraigned in Wareham District Court on one count of Murder. He pleaded not guilty and was held without bail.

At 11:48 a.m. Tuesday, Wareham Police received a 911 call from a person at 120 Glenn Charlie Road reporting that they had gone to check on a friend and discovered him unresponsive. Upon arrival, police found the victim, John E. Williams II (DOB: 04/13/45) inside the home, bleeding from multiple wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Wareham Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. The investigation determined that Wittey, who was acquainted with Williams, stabbed the victim once and shot him 10 times.

A preliminary report by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner found that the cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds and sharp force injuries and the manner of death was determined to be Homicide.

Based on their investigation, State Police Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Wittey for the murder and he was arrested just after 10 am this morning at a relative’s in Pembroke.

The case was investigated by State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and Wareham Police.
