BROCKTON – A pair of West Wareham brothers who were convicted on charges they stabbed a neighbor, have been sentenced to jail, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today.
After a 3-day trial, a Plymouth County Superior Court jury deliberated five hours before finding Michael Gill (DOB: 11/30/96) and Robert R. Gill Jr. (DOB: 10/31/94), guilty of one count each of Armed Assault to Kill and Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon. On January 17, Brockton Superior Court Judge C.J. Moriarty sentenced Michael Gill to serve 2 ½ years in the House of Corrections with three years Probation from and after. Robert Gill was sentenced to serve to four to 4 ½ years in State Prison with three years Probation from and after.
On April 27, 2016 at approximately 1:30 pm, Wareham Police responded to a 911 call for a report of a fight between the two Gill brothers and the male victim in this case, who are neighbors and live on the same street. When police arrived, they found the victim bleeding. The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was treated for a stab wound to the side chest wall, slashes to his arms and wrists and the skin of his hand was cut off.
Witnesses told police that the Gill brothers approached the victim’s home and that Robert Gill had a knife in hand. The Gills threatened to kill the victim before they chased him around his yard and into the street, where they attacked and stabbed the victim. The Gills then fled the scene in their car, returning a short time later. While canvassing the area, Wareham Police were directed by residents to a catch basin where the knife used in the assault was discarded by the Gills. The Gill brothers had blood on their clothes and police were able to retrieve the knife used, which had blood on it.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Brian Fahy and Daniel Jimenez and was investigated by Wareham Police Department.
