Homicide Suspect Arraigned In Superior Court For Role In Brockton Murder

BROCKTON – A man pleaded not guilty today to his role in connection with the 2020 murder of a Brockton man, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Today, in Brockton Superior Court, Takari Elliot, 29, pleaded not guilty to one count of Murder and gun charges. He was held without bail and is next scheduled to appear in court on May 5. In March, Elliot and Marvin Veiga, 32, were indicted by a Plymouth County grand jury on one count each of Murder, Carrying a firearm, Subsequent Offense, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Armed Career Criminal, and three counts of Assault by Means of Discharging a Firearm.

The charges stem from an incident on October 13, 2020, at approximately 7:35 p.m. The Brockton Police Shotspotter notification system reported several rounds fired in the area of 94 Belmont Avenue in Brockton and police also received several 911 calls. Upon arrival, officers found Manuel Duarte, 25, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Three friends attempted to render aid to Duarte. He was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

As a result of the ongoing, active investigation, on March 5, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office obtained arrest warrants charging Elliot and Veiga. With the assistance of Brockton Police, Massachusetts State Police located Elliot in Brockton. Veiga has not been located.

Massachusetts State Police along with Brockton Police continue to actively search for Veiga, is considered to be armed and dangerous, has a history of violent crimes, and has tattoos about his face and neck.
