BROCKTON – Two people pleaded not guilty and were held after their arraignment on charges in a fatal shooting in Brockton last month, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Today, Brendan Fernandes, 33, of Brockton, and Destiny A. Fontes Silie, 25, of Warwick, Rhode Island were arraigned in connection with the shooting death of Brima Koroma, 24, of Boston.
At approximately 4:44 p.m. on March 15, Brockton Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the vicinity of 401 East Street. Upon arrival, first responders located a male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim, later identified as Koroma, was transported to Brockton Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
Brockton Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police Unit assigned to the
Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. As a result of the investigation, detectives sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Fernandes and Silie. The pair were last seen driving away from the shooting scene in separate cars.
On March 16, Virginia State Police stopped Silie’s blue sedan in Chesterfield, Va., and Fernandes and Silie were located and placed under arrest. They pair waived rendition and were returned to Brockton last evening.
Today at arraignment, Fernandes pleaded not guilty to one count each of Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He was held without bail. Silie pleaded not guilty to one count of Accessory After the Fact of Murder. Silie’s bail was revoked on two open cases and she was held. The two are scheduled to be in court again on June 16.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jeremy Beth Kusmin and Samantha Mullin, and was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police.
