BROCKTON – An Abington man was sentenced to State Prison time for distributing Heroin to fellow inmates, and causing several to seek medical treatment, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

John Antrim (DOB: 05/25/87), pleaded guilty to 12 counts, including Unlawful Distribution of a Class A Substance, Heroin, Subsequent Offense and Unlawfully Giving or Delivering Heroin to a Prisoner.

Brockton Superior Court Judge C.J. Moriarty sentenced Antrim to serve 5-6 years in State prison.

On October 17, 2014, Barnstable Police arrested Antrim on a warrant. At the time of his arrest, police found him to have one balloon of Heroin in his rectum. Investigators would later discover that Antrim had two additional bags inside his body while he was held at the Plymouth House of Corrections. Antrim began distributing the heroin to fellow inmates, three of which ended up being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of the three inmates, was treated for a heroin overdose after being found unresponsive in his cell on October 20, 2014.

After an investigation and interviews with prisoners, it was revealed that Antrim was the source with the heroin and on October 21, 2014, Plymouth County House of Corrections officials searched Antrim. They located a bag containing 5.59 grams of heroin in his rectum. Antrim then admitted to officials that there was an additional bag of heroin inside him and Antrim was transported to the hospital where an 11 gram bag of heroin was located.

Antrim told investigators that he used the heroin himself to fight opiate withdrawal and began to give heroin to the other inmates in order to rid himself of the contraband.

Assistant District Attorney Corey Sullivan Martin prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Barnstable Police and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department.
