POSITION TITLE:       Hybrid Administrative Assistant/Victim Witness Advocate

REPORTS TO:             Director/Deputy Director of Victim Services, Director of Administrative Services and Supervising ADA (HDC)

SALARY:                       $44,000.00

SUMMARY:

As an Administrative Assistant, will provide exceptional customer service, clerical and administrative support to the District Court locations. Will be responsible for developing, maintaining and updating files, records and databases. This position involves interaction with attorneys, law enforcement agencies, court personnel, state agencies and the public and involves a wide range of responsibilities.

As a Victim Witness Advocate (VWA), will be responsible for the facilitation of crisis assessment and intervention, information and referrals, supportive counseling and court advocacy services to victims, witnesses, and their families throughout the criminal justice system. Advocate also offers referrals, education, and resources to individuals looking to connect to social service agencies. Provides emotional support and information about the criminal court process in the event of a criminal prosecution and provides consistent updates to families. VWA must ensure victims receive the rights and services to which they are entitled under the Victim Bill of Rights.

  • Bachelor’s degree in victim services, criminal justice system, or related social service field or Associate’s degree with relevant experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work at any one of the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office locations in Brockton, Plymouth, Wareham and Hingham

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative, clerical and general support to the District Court Assistant District Attorneys and the entire office
  • Greet visitors, assess their needs and assist them or refer them to the appropriate staff
  • Provide reception coverage on a continual basis or as back up
  • District Court DAMION case entry, updating and disposition
  • Answer, direct and respond to incoming calls
  • Photocopy, fax, scan, proofread and create documents
  • Storage and retrieval of files
  • Manage internal and external mail flow
  • Type correspondence and summons witnesses and records
  • Complete work assignments in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Provide backup Administrative/VWA support to other locations when needed
  •  Attend Administrative/VWA meetings and trainings as required
  • Orient and explain to victims, witnesses, and family members the court process and their rights throughout that process as outlined in M.G.L. Chapter 258B

  • Provide written and/or verbal notification to victims and witnesses regarding arraignments, pre-trial conferences, motions, hearings, grand jury appearances, trials, defaults, dispositions, restitution hearings, sentencing, and appellate proceedings
  • Assess and evaluate victim needs and assist with referrals for appropriate services such as: community resources (housing, education, job training programs), emergency financial assistance, protection, and relocation; assistance with Victim Compensation applications; bail notification, and arranging meetings and interviews

  • Build and maintain relationships with agencies and resources that support victims
  • Become familiar with and follow the provisions of the Office Personnel Policies

  • Perform any other duty that may be requested by the District Attorney or his designee
