BROCKTON – Two defendants were indicted on charges stemming from their roles in a fatal shooting in downtown Brockton, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Late yesterday, a Plymouth County grand jury indicted Michael Thompson, 36, on one count of Murder, two counts of Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and one count each of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Building. Dayana Slade, 25, was indicted on one count of Accessory After the Fact. The charges stem from the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Mike Jonas.
At about 4:15 p.m. on September 23, 2025, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office responded to a fatal shooting and stabbing at Finnegan Park, which is located near the intersection of Crescent Street and Montello Street in Brockton. Upon arrival, law enforcement located two victims suffering from gunshot and stab wounds. One victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other was taken to a hospital in Brockton. That victim, identified as Jonas, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Jonas sustained four gunshot wounds and multiple stab wounds during the incident.
Through preliminary investigation, law enforcement learned that an altercation occurred at Finnegan Park immediately prior to the shooting and were able to identify Thompson as the suspected shooter. The defendant was captured in surveillance footage leaving the area in a black Nissan Rogue while accompanied by two women, one of which was identified as Slade. The vehicle was later located by Weymouth Police and was seized as part of the homicide investigation.
Thompson and Slade fled the area, and were apprehended in February following months as fugitives from justice through the efforts of the United States Marshals Service, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
