BROCKTON – A Brockton man has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he struck and killed a pedestrian, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Today, Teddy Veiga, 34, pleaded not guilty in Brockton District Court to one count of Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation. Bail was set at $1,000.
On February 16, 2024, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Brockton Police received a 911 call from Veiga stating that he had struck a pedestrian. Brockton Police and Fire responded to the scene at 158 Oak Street. The male victim and Veiga were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Veiga was treated for non life-threatening injuries. The male victim was medflighted to Boston Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Andrew Thomas, 44, of Brockton.
Brockton Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Through their investigation, detectives determined that Veiga was driving and reached over to pick up a bag of groceries that had fallen over in the passenger side of his truck when he struck Thomas.
Veiga is next scheduled to appear in court on October 31.
The crash was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police.
