BROCKTON – A man has been indicted by the Plymouth County Grand Jury after fleeing a motor vehicle crash that left a woman dead, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Today, a Plymouth County grand jury indicted Juan Leonardo Parra Altamirano, 33, for Leaving the Scene of a Crash Resulting in Death. Altamirano is currently held without bail pending arraignment in Superior Court.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 3, 2023, a 2008 Toyota Scion TC and a 2015 Honda Accord were traveling northbound on Route 24 in West Bridgewater. The two vehicles collided, leaving the Honda Accord disabled with no lights in a lane of travel. A second collision occurred between an approaching pickup truck and the disabled Honda Accord. The Toyota Scion became engulfed in flames and the operator, Erpharo Gilbert, 46, of Raynham, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the Toyota Scion got out of his vehicle, but then returned to his car and fled the scene. The Scion left behind a bumper and license plate.
An investigation determined that Altamirano was behind the wheel operating the Toyota Scion when he knowingly collided with Gilbert’s vehicle and subsequently fled the scene. Altamirano turned himself into State Police on April 6th. He will be arraigned in Superior Court tomorrow.
Assistant District Attorneys Daniel Higgins and Molly MacKinnon are handling the prosecution. The crash investigation was led by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit for Plymouth County, with assistance from State Police Troop D, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
