BROCKTON- A Plymouth man’s arraignment on a Murder charge was postponed today pending the outcome of a competency evaluation, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Today, Matthew Paluzzi, 26, was set for arraignment in Brockton Superior Court in relation to the August 15th stabbing of his father, 73-year-old Anthony Paluzzi. Though the arraignment was continued pending the completion of his competency evaluation, Paluzzi pleaded not guilty in August to one count of Murder in district court and continues to be held without bail.
On August 15th at approximately 6:26 a.m., Plymouth Police received a 911 call from a caller at 15 Cedar Road who reported an unresponsive man bleeding from an apparent laceration to the neck. The caller stated that the victim — later identified as Anthony Paluzzi — was covered with blood, and that a kitchen knife was located near the front door.
Anthony Paluzzi was pronounced deceased at the scene following the arrival of Plymouth Police and emergency personnel.
The victim’s son was apprehended by Massachusetts State Police and Hanover Police following a traffic stop in the area of Columbia Road in Hanover. At the time of the stop, Matthew Paluzzi was found with apparent blood stains on his clothing, and a swab of his hands resulted in a presumptive positive screen for the presence of blood.
Paluzzi is next scheduled to appear in court on November 14 for a status hearing regarding his competency to stand trial.
Assistant District Attorneys David Cutshall and Arne Hantson are prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Plymouth Police.
