BROCKTON – Two defendants were arraigned today in Brockton District Court on charges stemming from their roles in a fatal shooting in downtown Brockton in September, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Michael Thompson, 35, is charged with one count of First-Degree Murder while Dayana Slade, 25, is charged with one count of Accessory After the Fact. Both suspects were arrested on Monday in Lewiston, Maine following months as fugitives from justice after the killing of 40-year-old Mike Jonas. Thompson was held without bail during the hearing, while Slade was held on $250,000 cash bail. Defense attorneys for both defendants reserved their rights to argue bail for their clients’ next hearing, which is scheduled for February 26.
At about 4:15 p.m. on September 23, 2025, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office responded to a fatal shooting and stabbing at Finnegan Park, which is located near the intersection of Crescent Street and Montello Street in Brockton. Upon arrival, law enforcement located two victims suffering from gunshot and stab wounds. One victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the other was taken to a hospital in Brockton. The latter victim, Jonas, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased following resuscitation efforts by medical personnel. Jonas sustained four gunshot wounds and multiple stab wounds during the fatal incident.
Through preliminary investigation, law enforcement learned that an altercation occurred at Finnegan Park immediately prior to the shooting and were able to identify Thompson as the suspected shooter. The defendant was captured on surveillance footage leaving the area in a black Nissan Rogue while accompanied by two women, one of which was identified as Slade. The vehicle was later located by Weymouth Police and was seized as part of the homicide investigation.
Thompson and Slade were apprehended through the efforts of the United States Marshals Service, Massachusetts State Police’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), Massachusetts State Police’s Detective Unit assigned to Plymouth County and local law enforcement.
