프로그램의 역사:
2021년 3월, 힝햄 경찰서는 플리머스 카운티 지방검찰청에 연락하여 힝햄 커뮤니티를 위한 컴포트 독 입양을 위한 기금에 대해 문의했습니다. 팀 크루즈 지방검사는 안락견이 법 집행 기관과 해당 지역사회에 제공할 수 있는 혜택을 조사한 후 힝햄 경찰서에 안락견 미니 보조금을 지급하여 플리머스 카운티 안락견 프로그램으로 빠르게 확장된 시범 프로젝트를 시작하게 했습니다.
크루즈 지방검사는 플리머스 카운티 내 모든 지역사회에 추가적인 서비스와 자원을 제공하기 위해 플리머스 카운티 도우미견 프로그램을 개발했습니다. 플리머스 카운티 지방검찰청은 플리머스 카운티 경찰서에 보조금을 지급하여 안락견의 입양, 훈련, 돌봄과 관련된 비용을 지원합니다.
디자인:
Our program is designed to be implemented by either the local School Resource Officer or the Police Department’s Community Outreach Officer, who in turn become the dog’s handler and sole caretaker. Both the handler and the comfort dog become members of the Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program and are required to undergo all necessary trainings in the certification process to qualify as a comfort and community resource dog. Both the handler and comfort dog are available to assist not only in their community, but in all communities across Plymouth County as part of our regional response team.

우리의 목적:
오피오이드 위기는 매사추세츠주뿐만 아니라 특히 플리머스 카운티에 큰 영향을 미쳤습니다. 우리 카운티에서는 안타깝게도 수천 명의 과다 복용과 과다 복용으로 인한 사망자가 발생했으며, 그 중 상당수가 청년층이었습니다. 가족, 친구, 이웃, 학교가 그 여파에 대처하기 위해 노력하면서 그 파급 효과는 지역사회에까지 미쳤습니다. 이러한 파급 효과에 영향을 받은 지역사회 사람들에게 위로 서비스를 제공함으로써 위로견이 큰 자산이 되고 있음을 증명하고 있습니다.
플리머스 카운티 컴포트 독 프로그램의 사명과 목적은 약물 중독 위험에 처한 아동, 아동기 이상 경험(ACE)이 있는 학생 및 플리머스 카운티 커뮤니티 내에서 이 서비스를 필요로 하는 다른 사람들의 안녕을 위해 위로와 정서적 지원을 제공하는 것입니다.
확장:
Currently, we have 20 dogs in our program.
In January 2024, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office received approval for a change of scope to our existing DOJ / COSSUP Drug Endangered Children’s Initiative Grant. The DOJ approved the reallocation of $447,000.00 to the Plymouth County Comfort Dog Program for training, equipment and an academic evaluation of our program for 17 of our comfort dogs that regularly visit our K-12 schools.
Our Comfort Dog program has expanded to include 3 additional Comfort Dogs that work outside of the K-12 school systems. These three dogs also work in our communities and are members of our regional response team. We have 2 Comfort Dogs from Bridgewater State University who work with the students on campus, and a comfort dog from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department who regularly visits with Senior Centers.
