BROCKTON – A Pembroke man convicted of seven counts of child rape was sentenced to serve three decades in prison today following a hearing in Brockton Superior Court, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
David Johnson Jr., 47, was convicted on October 27 of four counts of Aggravated Rape of a Child and three counts of Rape of a Child following a six-day jury trial. He was sentenced to serve a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 38 years in state prison. Following his release, Johnson will be placed on three years of probation and must register as a sex offender, participate in a sex offender risk assessment with probation and treatment, stay away and have no contact with any of his victims, have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, and is forbidden from engaging in any employment or volunteering opportunities that involve interacting with children. He will also be fitted with a GPS monitor and be subject to appropriate exclusion zones.
In May 2021, Pembroke Police initiated an investigation into a series of rapes and sexual assaults — which took place over the span of decades — after Johnson’s victims came forward. Johnson initially denied the sexual assaults and has continued to deny his yearslong victimization of children since the criminal investigation into his conduct began.
“I am immensely proud of the victims in this case for coming forward with their testimony, and for their continued work with our office to ensure David Johnson’s lengthy prison sentence,” DA Cruz said. “Their bravery in the face of unimaginable hardship is a testament to their strength as people, and it is my sincere hope that today’s sentence brings them peace.”
This case was investigated by the Pembroke Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Beth Kusmin.
