BROCKTON – Two men were indicted yesterday in Brockton Superior Court for their roles in a fatal car crash last August in Plymouth that killed a Natick woman, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Anthony Bradley, 30, of Plymouth is charged with Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle, Motor Vehicle Homicide by OUI, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Chevelle Borden, 19, is charged with a single count of Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
On the evening of August 30, Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a vehicle collision on Massachusetts Route 3 in Plymouth. Witnesses told first responders a white Jeep Cherokee was driving in excess of 100 miles per hour when it attempted to pass another vehicle from the break down lane. The Jeep hit the other vehicle before rolling over several times. The Jeep’s front seat passenger — later identified as 29-year-old Lauren Eldridge — was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was med flighted to a hospital in Boston. Eldridge succumbed to her injuries later the next day.
Bradley, who was driving the Jeep at the time of the crash, also sustained serious injuries and was med flighted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. A toxicology report later found Bradley was intoxicated and over the legal blood alcohol concentration limit during the crash.
Witnesses told investigators a third vehicle was involved in the incident and was seemingly racing the white Jeep prior to the crash. On August 31, a day later, Borden — who attends school in Massachusetts — voluntarily turned himself into state police and recounted his version of events. Borden stated he was driving a blue Dodge Charger on the highway when he witnessed a white Jeep come from behind him in the breakdown lane that was traveling over 100 miles per hour. He told investigators he sped up to keep pace with the white Jeep but eventually began to brake when he saw traffic ahead of him. Borden subsequently witnessed the fatal crash, but stated he did not see anyone ejected from the vehicle. While Borden said he did not believe his vehicle struck anything during the incident, he added there was damage on the driver’s side taillight and fender that was not there prior to the crash.
Bradley and Borden will be arraigned in Superior Court at a later date.
