BROCKTON – Two men were indicted today in connection with a fatal shooting at a home in Brockton last July, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Co-defendants Govanni Carapinha, 24, and Marcus Miranda, 21 were both indicted by a grand jury in Plymouth County Superior Court on one count each of Murder. Both defendants were arraigned on charges related to this incident in Brockton District Court following their arrests and are being held without bail.

On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at approximately 11:51 p.m., Brockton Police received 911 calls for a shooting that occurred at a residence on Vesey Street. Brockton Police responded to the scene and located a deceased, male victim — identified as 22-year-old Romualdy Pierre-Charles — who had been shot several times. Brockton Police then contacted Massachusetts State Police and an investigation proceeded.

A review of surveillance video in the area showed three individuals wearing black clothing approach the home on Vesey Street and chase the victim into the backyard of his home. During the incident, Carapinha was shot in the leg. Miranda and another unidentified male wearing black clothing helped Carapinha into a gray Infiniti motor vehicle and drove him from the murder scene in Brockton to Boston Medical Center, where Carapinha was treated for his injuries. He was arrested following his release from BMC.

Miranda was arrested by Massachusetts State Police on July 29, 2024, as he attempted to board a plane at Logan Airport.

Assistant District Attorney Kevin McCarthy is prosecuting this case. It was investigated by Brockton Police and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police.

Carapinha and Miranda will be arraigned in Superior Court at a later date.
