BROCKTON – A man has been arraigned on charges that he left the scene after striking a female pedestrian with his SUV in Brockton last night, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Allen T. Perkins, 57, of Brockton, was arraigned this morning in Brockton District Court on one count of Leaving the Scene of a Crash Causing Death. He pleaded not guilty and was held on $2,500 cash bail with the conditions that if he make bail, he wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, and that he have no contact with the victim’s family. The Commonwealth requested Perkins be held on $10,000 cash bail. Perkins is next scheduled to appear in court on October 1.

On Tuesday at approximately 9 p.m., Brockton Police received a 911 call and responded to the area of #680 Centre Street for a report of hit and run crash. The female victim was transported to Brockton Hospital where she was pronounced dead at approximately 9:26 p.m. The victim has been identified as Michelle Maxwell, 55, of Brockton.

Brockton Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Investigators interviewed witnesses and secured video from the area that showed a dark SUV was traveling east on Centre Street when it struck Maxwell, who was crossing the street. The truck is then seen on video taking a right onto Sterling Road, leaving the area.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., Perkins walked into Brockton Police Department and stated that he had been involved in a crash on Centre Street. Perkins reported that he had gone out to pick up some food and believed that he struck a traffic cone in the roadway and then returned home without picking up his food. Perkins told police that he searched online and discovered information about the crash on Centre Street. Investigators found that Perkins then moved his vehicle from his home to a nearby parking lot before he reported to the Brockton Police station. Police located the vehicle and secured it as evidence and Perkins was placed under arrest.

The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police Detectives, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services and Brockton Police. Anyone with information on the crash is urged to call Brockton Police or Massachusetts State Police.
