BROCKTON – Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office investigated 12 homicides and responded to 59 suspected fatal drug overdoses in 2025, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.
Pursuant to Massachusetts General Law, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the District Attorney’s Office have the responsibility of investigating all sudden or unattended deaths if under violent, suspicious, or unusual circumstances. These deaths are investigated by the District Attorney’s law enforcement representative, which in our county is the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit-Homicide Section. The State Police Detective Unit works in conjunction with local police departments on death investigations.
In 2025, there were 12 homicides, nine of which occurred in the city of Brockton. Last year, Plymouth County saw 14 homicides with eight occurring in Brockton.
Our county also recorded 59 suspected fatal overdoses, which was a significant decrease from 93 suspected fatal overdoses the year before.
“I am pleased to see a substantial decrease in suspected fatal overdoses across Plymouth County, but the fact remains there is always more work to do,” DA Cruz said. “Our office is steadfast in its mission to hold violent offenders accountable while also helping to reduce all types of fatalities in our community through coordinated efforts with our local partners. I am grateful to all the assistant district attorneys and law enforcement personnel that helped us with this mission in 2025, and I look forward to working alongside them in the coming year.”
