BROCKTON – A Brockton man who sexually assaulted a young boy has been found guilty and sentenced to State Prison time, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today.

Gledys Charles (DOB: 02/15/97) was found guilty at a bench trial on Tuesday in Brockton Superior Court on three counts each of Aggravated Rape of a Child, Threats to Commit a Crime and Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person Under 14. Brockton Superior Court Judge Charles J. Hely sentenced Charles to serve 10 years to 10 years and one day in State Prison. That sentenced is followed by four years of probation with the condition that Charles wear a GPS monitoring bracelet, register as a sex offender and get treatment and stay away and have no contact with the victim.

On November 23, 2011 at 6:42 pm, Brockton Police responded to 167 Newbury Street for a report of a man assaulting a six-year-old boy. Upon arrival at the apartment, police located the young male victim but Charles had fled the scene.

Through their investigation and interview with the victim, Brockton Police determined that Charles was an acquaintance of the boy’s mother and had been hanging around the apartment and had sexually assaulted the boy living there on at least three occasions.

Brockton Police located Charles in Brockton the following day and he was arrested.

Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Beth Kusmin prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Brockton Police.
