BROCKTON – A criminal complaint was issued this week against a Plympton woman accused of several counts of animal cruelty, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Jenifer Rogers, 42, is charged with 12 counts of animal cruelty stemming from her alleged neglect of over 100 farm animals in her possession. She is scheduled to appear in court on November 3 for a summons arraignment.

On September 22, personnel with the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were notified of a local law enforcement response to a home on Lake Street in Plympton. Reports suggested several poultry, fowl and other farm animals had been continually neglected and some were deceased and left on the property. The MSPCA had received prior reports of potential neglect at the Lake Street home but were unable to access the property due to a lack of cooperation from Rogers, who was residing there. The homeowner informed MSPCA personnel that several animals had died in the past few months due to neglect and that Rogers chose not to care for the animals. Upon inspection of the property, MSPCA personnel found several animals living in inadequate shelters with a lack of available food or water. Dead livestock was found in the immediate vicinity of live animals and various bones and skulls from what appeared to be deceased goats were littered around the property.

Rogers was given an opportunity to surrender any animals she could not care for. MSPCA personnel returned the following day with a search warrant and found many of the animals still did not have access to water and shelters remained unsanitary. A total of 116 animals were removed from the Lake Street property and transported to MSPCA Cape Cod and Methuen shelters. Examinations of the animals following their removal from Rogers’ residence found clear and consistent signs of neglect.
