HINGHAM – A former Brockton Police School Police Officer has resolved his case where it is alleged he put in for financial compensation for hours not worked, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Yesterday, in Hingham District Court, Darnell Campbell, 35, entered into a pre-trial probation agreement for False Claims By Law Enforcement Officer on Hours Worked, and a Public Employee Standards of Conduction Violation. The pre-trial probation term is for one year, and Campbell is ordered to pay restitution of $2,500 to the Brockton School Department within the first three months of probation.
During the month of October, 2023, the Brockton Police Department was provided information that Campbell was putting in for financial and time compensation for hours that he did not work. The witness provided investigators with both timecards and produced video footage that showed Campbell’s arrival to and from Brockton High School to pick up or drop off his cruiser.
Based on all of the information gathered by investigators comparing the video and overtime and timecards filled out and signed by Campbell, police charged Campbell. The hours and compensation were not sanctioned by the school department or contractually supported to justify submitting for hours not worked.
Campbell is on administrative leave from his position with the Brockton Public Schools.
Assistant District Attorney Victoria Wood prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Brockton Police Department.
