BROCKTON – Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police are investigating the weekend death of a pedestrian in Brockton, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
At approximately 3:55 a.m. on Sunday, Brockton Police were on routine patrol when they observed a male party on the ground in the parking lot behind Cardoso Café and beside the Royal Fuel Gas station and at Lincoln Street and West Railroad Avenue. Brewster Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to Brockton Hospital, before he was medflighted to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. He has been identified as 28-year-old Lianes Brandao. Brockton Police contacted members of the Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit, and an investigation commenced.
Through witness and video surveillance of the parking lot investigators determined that a physical altercation took place involving Brandao and several other individuals. The individuals left the scene, and some time after, Brandao was run over by a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle then left the scene.
Investigators identified the vehicle that left the scene as a 2013 gray Jeep Compass, and the operator was later interviewed at the Brockton Police Department regarding the incident.
The state OCME accepted jurisdiction of the case and will determine cause and manner of death.
