BROCKTON – A Brockton man charged with several firearm-related offenses stemming from an officer-involved-shooting incident was held without bail today in Brockton District Court following an arraignment and subsequent dangerousness hearing, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Jailson Andrade, 44, is charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and one count each of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Receiving an Untraceable Firearm, Firearm Discharge Within 500 Feet of a Building, Possession of Ammunition Without a Firearm Identification Card, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Failure to Stop/Yield, Speeding, and a Marked Lanes Violation. He was held without bail and is scheduled to next appear in court on May 1.
In the early morning hours of March 29, Brockton Police located a white Lexus vehicle with the same license plate as a vehicle recently listed on a department safety bulletin. Officers approached the vehicle, and the driver — identified as Andrade — attempted to flee. A motor vehicle pursuit ensued, ending when Andrade’s vehicle spun out near the intersection of Spring and Moraine Streets in Brockton. Andrade exited the Lexus and began firing a weapon at officers, resulting in police returning fire. Andrade sustained a gunshot wound during the incident, while neither of the officers involved sustained serious injuries. A male individual who was not involved in the shooting was struck by gunfire as a result of the incident and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at an area hospital.
Andrade was arrested immediately following the shooting. A 9-millimeter handgun with an obliterated serial number was recovered at the scene.
Further investigation into this shooting incident is active. Brockton Police remains as the primary investigating agency regarding criminal charges against Andrade, while the Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit is investigating the entirety of the incident and the officer involved shooting.
