Brockton Woman Held Without Bail in Fatal Stabbing of Boyfriend

BROCKTON – A Brockton woman is being held without bail in the stabbing death of her boyfriend, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Kirstin Smith (DOB: 11/02/63) pleaded not guilty in Brockton District Court today to one count of Murder in the death of Scott Benoit (DOB: 10/16/64). Smith was held without bail.

At approximately 1:04 pm Friday, Brockton Police received a 911 call for 65 Maguire Road. Upon arrival, police and emergency responders found Benoit unresponsive inside the residence. Benoit was pronounced dead on the scene.

Brockton Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Investigators recovered a 7-inch knife covered in blood, along with other evidence from the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled that the preliminary cause of death of Mr. Benoit was a stab wound to the chest and the manner was ruled a homicide.

Smith is next scheduled to appear in court on July 27, 2017.

Assistant District Attorney Jessica Elumba is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Brockton Police.
