State Police, Plymouth Police, State Athletic Commission Investigating Death of MMA Fighter

BROCKTON – An investigation is underway after a mixed martial arts athlete died after a showcase held over the weekend, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office were contacted today regarding the death of Rondel Clark (DOB: 5/4/1991) of Sutton, Massachusetts, who was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston earlier this morning.

Mr. Clark competed as part of Cage Titans XXXV on Saturday, August 12th at Plymouth Memorial Hall. The match was stopped after approximately two minutes into the third round and ruled a technical knockout. Post-fight examination of Clark resulted in his being transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Clark was then transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he died earlier today.

The Office of the State Medical Examiner has accepted jurisdiction and will determine the cause and manner of Clark’s death.

The investigation is ongoing by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Plymouth Police and the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission.
