Man Who Went Overboard Identified

BROCKTON — The man who died after falling off of a boat Saturday night has been identified, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced. According to the investigation, at approximately 8:40 pm on Saturday, the vessel Providence II broadcasted a “man overboard” alert in the vicinity of Peddock’s Island in Hull. Numerous agencies were requested and responded to the scene, including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, the Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit and State Police Dive Unit. At approximately 11 pm, Environmental Police activated side scan sonar in an attempt to locate the victim. At approximately 12:47 am, State Police divers located the victim in the Fore River Channel in Weymouth. The victim was removed from the water and transported to the Coast Guard station at Point Allerton in Hull. He has been identified as Aaron Dibella (DOB: 04/10/97) of Peabody.

The investigation is ongoing by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner accepted jurisdiction and will determine the exact cause and manner of Dibella’s death.
