Mattapoisett Man Sentenced To Three Years For Distributing Fentanyl

BROCKTON — A man has pleaded guilty to charges that he distributed Fentanyl in the Mattapoisett area, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today.

On Wednesday, October 3, 2017, John N. DeCosta III (DOB: 8/6/87) of Mattapoisett, pleaded guilty to one count each of Distribution of a Class B Substance, Fentanyl and Distribution of a Class B Substance, Fentanyl, Subsequent Offense. Plymouth District Court Judge Pasquale sentenced DeCosta to serve three years to three and one day in State Prison.

During the month of July, 2017, members of the Mattapoisett Police conducted an investigation into fentanyl distribution occurring in the area. During the investigation, DeCosta was identified as an individual distributing amounts of fentanyl to customers. As a result of the investigation, on October 4, 2017, Mattapoisett Police sought and obtained search warrants for DeCosta, as well as his vehicle and residence in Mattapoisett. Mattapoisett Police arrested DeCosta on October 4, 2017 in the parking of 7-11 on Route 6/Fairhaven Road when he was observed by Mattapoisett Police conducting a drug transaction. Police seized $2,093 in cash from DeCosta and a small bag which contained Fentanyl.

In a search of his residence, Mattapoisett Police located $1,900 in cash, a digital scale and several corner cut baggies consistent with the distribution of narcotics.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brian Fahy and investigated by Mattapoisett Police.
