At approximately midnight Friday, State Police received a 911 call reporting a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 44 westbound at the 31.4 mile marker in Carver. Upon arrival, Carver Police, Fire and emergency personnel found two vehicles were involved and a male victim was found seriously injured outside one of the vehicles. The male victim was transported to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for treatment. State Police were notified at 12:28 pm Friday that the victim, identified as Daniel Newcomb (06/04/86) Taunton, had passed away as a result of his injuries.
Preliminarily, investigators found that the victim’s vehicle was in the right hand breakdown lane and stopped at the time it was struck by the second vehicle. It appears Mr. Newcomb may have been outside of his vehicle at the time of the impact. The driver of the second vehicle stopped at the scene, has not been charged and is not being identified at this time.
The investigation is ongoing by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Carver Police and the State Police CARS Unit and Crime Scene Services.
