BROCKTON – One man is under arrest and the investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding a fatal motor vehicle crash in Hull, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

At approximately 10:09 p.m. last night, Hull Police received a 911 call for a report of a break into an auto body shop on Nantasket Avenue. The caller reported that a male had stolen a Ford F-150 truck from the shop lot. Hull Police put out a BOLO for the stolen vehicle and an officer located the vehicle in travel. The Hull Police officer attempted to make a motor vehicle stop of the truck and the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a utility pole along Rockaway Avenue. The driver of the stolen Ford truck fled on foot, while officers immediately rendered medical aid to the passenger.  The male passenger victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Michael Peters, 52, of Hull.

Shortly after the crash occurred, Hull Police responded to 1621 Avalon Drive for a report of a domestic assault and home invasion. This location was nearby to where the crash occurred on Rockaway Avenue. Subsequently, Karl Sault, 40, of Hull, who is believed to be the driver of the stolen motor vehicle, was located at a nearby address on Avalon Drive and placed under arrest.

Hull Police contacted troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced.

Sault is scheduled to be arraigned on charges of Domestic Assault and Battery, Breaking and Entering, and Intimidation of a Witness on Monday in Hingham District Court.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation by Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Hull Police, members of the MSP CSS and MSP-CARS Units.
