BROCKTON – Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of two women, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
At approximately 1:48 a.m. today, Brockton Police received a Shotspotter activation, as well as several 911 calls reporting multiple people shot in the area of Tremont and Essex Streets. Upon arrival, police learned that three people, one male and two females, had been shot and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, either by ambulance or motor vehicle. At 2:42 a.m., the male victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. He has been identified as 31 year-old Thomas Andrade Jr. of Brockton. The two female shooting victims were treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, and an investigation commenced. Detectives have conducted interviews and viewed surveillance video. Investigators have determined that a large-scale, outside gathering of more than 100 people was ongoing in the area throughout the hours leading up to the time of the shooting. This gathering included the consumption of alcohol, and the execution of dozens of fireworks. At least six or more motor vehicles were struck by gunfire, and investigators seized numerous pieces of ballistic and spent firework evidence at the scene.
The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing at this time. Preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Brockton Police Detectives or the Massachusetts State Police Unit at 508-941-0200.
