BROCKTON – A Brockton man already serving time for murder was sentenced to state prison today for assaulting and seriously injuring a corrections officer, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Late yesterday, after a 3-day trial, a jury deliberated for three hours before finding Dvante Bly-Mollenthiel, 26, guilty of one count of Assault and Battery on a Corrections Officer.
Today, Judge Robert Gordon sentenced Bly-Mollenthiel to serve 5-7 years.
“Corrections officers are without weaponry and surrounded by peril, those accused of or convicted of horrific, violent acts,” DA Cruz said. “I have the utmost respect for those who choose to put on the uniform and go toward danger. Protecting these guardians must be a priority.”
In March, 2024, Bly-Mollenthiel, pleaded guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter and firearm charges in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Christopher Lascase of Brockton. He was sentenced to serve 12-15 years in state prison on the manslaughter indictment. Additionally, Bly-Mollenthiel was sentenced to concurrent committed time and probation from and after on the firearm indictments.
On July 21, 2022, Bly-Mollenthiel assaulted a male corrections officer at the Plymouth County House of Correction. The officer suffered six fractures in the nose and orbital bones as a result of the attack.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sharon Thibeault, and was investigated by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department.
