The National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) voted the San Diego County District Attorney as its president, and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz its President-Elect.

Formed in 1950, the NDAA is the oldest and largest national organization representing state and local prosecutors in the country. With more than 6,000 members representing over two-thirds of the state and local prosecutors’ offices, NDAA is recognized as the leading source of national expertise on the prosecution function and a valuable resource for media, academia, government and community leaders. NDAA’s mission is to provide local prosecutors with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to ensure that justice is done and that public safety rights are protected.

Summer Stephan, the current District Attorney of San Diego County, was sworn in as president at the NDAA Annual Summer Summit in Boise, Idaho this week. Since becoming the elected District Attorney for San Diego County in 2018, DA Stephan has led one of the nation’s largest DA Offices, with a professional staff of 1,000 employees. In addition to Stephan’s election, NDAA voted DA Cruz to be President-Elect in the 2024-2025 Slate of Officers.

“Summer Stephan is an accomplished prosecutor, and a worthy choice to lead the NDAA,” DA Cruz said. “As District Attorneys, all of us operate our offices with the highest standards of fairness and integrity to our communities. I look forward to her leadership, and continuing to work together to share ideas, implement best practices, and, mostly importantly, protect the public safety.”

Plymouth County District Attorney since 2001, DA Cruz has also served as president of the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association four times before, in 2005, in 2010, in 2018, and in 2022. Currently, DA Cruz serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the National District Attorneys Association. DA Cruz additionally serves as a co-chair on the Prevention Subcommittee of the Governor’s Council to Address Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.
