BROCKTON – A local man was sentenced to 10 – 12 years in state prison after being found guilty earlier this week of involuntary manslaughter and gun charges in connection with a fatal shooting in Brockton three years ago, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Kevin Gomes, 29, was convicted Thursday of one count each of Involuntary Manslaughter, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Plymouth County Superior Court for the fatal shooting of 51-year-old Harry Williams.
On February 5, 2022 at approximately 2:41 a.m., Brockton Police responded to the area of 21 Auna Drive for a report of a person who had been shot. Brockton Police officers arrived on scene and observed a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim — later identified as Williams — was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Following investigative efforts from Brockton Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Gomes was linked to the fatal shooting and subsequently arrested in Worcester.
“It is my office’s sincere hope that this sentencing helps bring a semblance of closure to the family of this victim, Harry Williams,” DA Cruz said. “We commend them for their resilience and cooperation as we have worked to bring Kevin Gomes to justice.”
Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Sprague and Kevin O’Leary prosecuted this case. It was investigated by Brockton Police and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
