BROCKTON – The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office has been awarded $50,000 from the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts to continue our partnership in fighting against automobile insurance fraud in Brockton and throughout Plymouth County, District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office first partnered with the IFB and the Brockton Police Department in 2004. The funding delivered to the District Attorney’s Office by the IFB will once again supplement and support the participation of the PCDAO in the Community Insurance Fraud Initiative (CIFI), which joins IFB investigators, local police departments, DA’s Offices, the Attorney General, and insurance company investigators to work together to prevent and prosecute insurance fraud in the residual motor vehicle insurance market.

DA Cruz accepted the funding from Anthony M. DiPaolo, executive director of the IFB. The $50,000 is funded by Arbella Mutual Insurance Company.

Data provided by the IFB showed that an estimated $20.9 million in losses were deterred in the city of Brockton in 2023 due to the ongoing efforts of CIFI, which equates to $400 saved per vehicle in Brockton. This is an improvement from 2022, where there was an estimated $19.1 million in deterred losses in Brockton. Data for estimated deterred losses in 2024 will be available later this year.

“Over the past several years, my office’s partnership with Executive Director DiPaolo and the IFB has helped reduce the impact of auto insurance fraud in Brockton,” DA Cruz said. “I stand by the IFB’s mission and look forward to working with them in 2025, and many years to come.”

IFB Executive Director DiPaolo said, “This joint effort illustrates the commitment of both the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Massachusetts and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office in fighting insurance fraud.  Our long-standing partnership demonstrates a devotion to the citizens of Plymouth County that insurance fraud is not tolerated.”
