BROCKTON – A jury has found a man guilty of raping a 15-year-old female victim at a Rockland hotel being used as a migrant shelter, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

After a four-day trial in Plymouth Superior Court, a jury deliberated 5 ½ hours before finding Cory B. Alvarez, now 27, guilty of one count each of Aggravated Rape of a Child with 10 Year Age Difference. Alvarez is being held without bail until his sentencing.

At approximately 7:06 p.m. on March 13, 2024, Rockland Police were dispatched to the Comfort Inn at 850 Hingham Street for a report of a sexual assault. At the time, the Comfort Inn was part of a state/federal program to provide housing and food for migrant families staying there. Alvarez resided at that address.

Upon arrival, Rockland Police encountered the 15-year-old female victim, who was then transported to South Shore Hospital for treatment. As a result of their investigation, Rockland Police developed probable cause to arrest Alvarez, and he was taken into custody.

At trial, jurors heard testimony that Alvarez’s DNA was located on the female victim.

“The jury has spoken, and we thank them for their time and due diligence in finding Cory Alvarez guilty,” DA Cruz said. “This difficult case has always been about going forward to seek justice on behalf of this child victim. I am grateful that we were able to have this case tried on the merits, and the jury ultimately reached their unanimous conclusion.”

Sentencing is scheduled for September 30 at 2 p.m. in Plymouth Superior Court. The charge carries a mandatory/minimum sentence of 10 years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham, with the assistance of Victim Witness Advocate Carolyn Dixon, prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Rockland Police.
