HINGHAM – A Pembroke man has pleaded not guilty to a charge that he exposed himself to a boy inside the bathroom of an indoor sports facility, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Today, in Hingham District Court, Robert N. Schroeter, 44, of Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to one count of Open and Gross Lewdness. The Commonwealth requested that Schroeter be held on $5,000 cash bail, with the conditions that he stay away and have no contact with the victim in the case, have no unsupervised contact with any children under the age of 16, and have no contact with the University Sports Complex in Hanover.

On February 4, Hanover Police were dispatched to the University Sports Complex at 637 Washington Street for a report about an incident that occurred the night before between a child and a male party.

The parent of the 7-year-old male victim told police that her son exited the boys’ bathroom and reported a strange encounter with an adult male while inside the bathroom. The 7-year-old reported that while washing his hands, he turned around to find a man, later identified as Schroeter, with his erect penis in his hand, wiping it with a paper towel.

As part of their investigation, Hanover Police conducted interviews, reviewed surveillance footage, and followed up tips and leads. As a result, they developed probable cause to arrest Schroeter, and he was taken into custody last night by Hanover Police.

Schroeter was released on $5,000 cash bail that he had previously posted at the Hanover Police Station. He is next scheduled to appear in court on March 14.
