BROCKTON – A Brockton man was sent to State Prison for 12-13 years after he pleaded guilty to charges he raped and sexually assaulted a young, female family member, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today.

Elbert Richardson (DOB: 03/02/60) of Brockton, pleaded guilty late yesterday to four counts of Aggravated Rape of a Child, one count of Rape of a Child and two counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child under 14. Brockton Superior Court Judge Cornelius J. Moriarty sentenced Richardson to serve 12-13 years in State Prison, committed, to be followed by five years of Probation. The Commonwealth had recommended Richardson serve 15-17 years in State Prison.

“The facts of this case were particularly disturbing,” DA Cruz said. “Mr. Richardson pleading guilty has spared this young child from being further victimized at trial. My hope is that this entire family can finally now begin the healing process.”

On November 28, 2014, Brockton Police conducted a rape investigation where a 12-yearold girl had become pregnant. Further investigation revealed that on a number of occasions over approximate two years, Richardson raped and sexually assaulted a juvenile female family member. Late yesterday, Richardson pleaded guilty to those charges.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jeremy Beth Kusmin and Shanan Buckingham and was investigated by Brockton Police.
