District Attorney Cruz Announces Move of Plymouth County DA’s Office, State Police Unit

BROCKTON – Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today that funding has been approved by the Legislature and signed by Governor Baker to move the District Attorney’s Office from its current Belmont Street location to a larger site on Main Street in Brockton.

Governor Baker signed the supplemental budget, which included funding for costs associated with the moving and relocation of the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office. For the past 38 years, the DA’s main office has been located at 32 Belmont Street. After many years of working on the relocation, the new address will now be at 166 Main Street in Brockton and will allow for consolidation of four offices and bring 100 employees under one roof. The state-of-theart facility will house Assistant District Attorneys, State Police Detectives, Victim/Witness Advocates and support staff. After some conversion and renovations are complete, move-in is expected to happen this fall.

“This is a proud moment for the residents of Plymouth County and the City of Brockton,” DA Cruz said. “For many years our 32 Belmont Street location has served us well but it is past time for us to move on to a larger space. I am both pleased and grateful to Governor Baker and Lieutenant Polito and to the legislative delegations in Plymouth and Brockton and Mayor Carpenter, who have all stepped up to make this happen.”

From a public safety standpoint, State Police troopers will no longer be traveling in from their barracks in Middleboro. Once they are situated in the office space, under the same roof, the city will have the presence of more troopers on the street.

Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter said, “We appreciate the Governor’s commitment to keep the offices of Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz in Downtown Brockton. The new facility will allow the DA to locate 25 Massachusetts State troopers in the new downtown offices, dramatically improving the perception of public safety downtown while filling a long term vacant building and providing the District Attorney with a 21st century facility. The new District Attorney’s offices will be another block in the revitalization of our downtown.”

In addition to thanking Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito, DA Cruz has many people to credit for making this building project possible. State Representatives James M. Cantwell and Claire D. Cronin played integral parts in their roles with the Joint Committee on Ways and Means. Additionally, DA Cruz would like to thank State Senators Viriato M. deMacedo and Michael D. Brady and State Representatives Garrett Bradley, Susan Williams Gifford, Gerry Cassidy and Michelle DuBois.
