A Plymouth County grand jury returned one count of Murder today against Stephen M. Walcott II, 42, of Brockton. Walcott II is currently being held without bail.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on February 8, East Bridgewater Police responded to a request for a well-being check at a home at 137 Cedar Street. Upon arrival, first responders located a male victim suffering from apparent head trauma. The victim, who lived in the home, was identified as 70 year-old Stephen Walcott Sr. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:05 p.m.
East Bridgewater Police contacted Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Neighbors reported that a person driving a white sedan and matching the description of Walcott II, was seen at the home earlier in the afternoon. It was also determined that Walcott II lived at 264 Boylston Street in Brockton, and owned a white Lincoln sedan. A BOLO was issued for the vehicle, and at approximately 7:30 p.m., Walcott II arrived home in the vehicle and he was placed under arrest without incident.
As a result of the investigation and the indictment alleges that Walcott II arrived at Walcott Sr.’s East Bridgewater home around 5 p.m., a verbal altercation ensued, and Walcott II beat his father about the head and face with his fists. He additionally took a dumbbell and struck Walcott Sr. in the back of the head, and also attempted to suffocate him.
Assistant District Attorneys Keara Kelley and Jason Herron are prosecuting the case, which was investigated by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, East Bridgewater Police and Brockton Police.
