PLYMOUTH – A Kingston man has been arraigned on charges that he possessed child pornography, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Eric S. Smith, 63, of Kingston, was arraigned today in Plymouth District Court on two counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and Judge Franco GoBourne set bail at $1,000 cash with the conditions that Smith stay away and have no contact with children under the age of 16 and that he stay away from all schools in the Commonwealth.
The Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crime Unit (MSP CCU) was assigned to investigate a cyber tipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding dissemination of child sexual abuse imagery over the internet in Plymouth County. Massachusetts State Police sought and received a search warrant, and yesterday at approximately 4:45 p.m., the warrant was executed by MSP CCU, Massachusetts State Police Crime Services Section, Massachusetts State Police STOP TEAM, Homeland Security Investigations and the Kingston Police Department. State Police seized a laptop and a thumb drive.
As a result of the search warrant execution, Smith was placed under arrest for Possession of Child Pornography. Smith is next scheduled to appear in court for pretrial conference on October 8, 2020. The investigation is ongoing.
