BROCKTON – A man has been arraigned on charges that he fatally shot a man in Brockton, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Donta Hood, 33, was arraigned late yesterday in Brockton District Court on one count each of Murder, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Discharging a Weapon Within 500 feet of a Building, Possession of a Firearm Without a License, and Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card. He pleaded not guilty and was held without bail.
At approximately 6:17 p.m. on December 5, Brockton Police were contacted about a shooting in the vicinity of 28 Lexington Street and Green Street. Upon arrival, first responders located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital before being medflighted to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. He was identified as 35 year-old Marvin Hill of Brockton.
Brockton Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. As a result, on December 8, investigators sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Hood. Massachusetts State Police have been actively searching for Hood since that date.
Yesterday, Hood was located at a home in Assonet and he was taken into custody.
Hood is next scheduled to appear in court on January 25.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Shanan Buckingham and Kevin O’Leary, and was investigated by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police.
