PLYMOUTH – A Pembroke man who had been on the run since 2019 had his bail revoked late last week following an arrest in Georgia and subsequent extradition back to the Commonwealth to face charges of domestic violence, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz and Kingston Police Chief Brian Holmes have announced.
James Adams, 43, was charged with Assault & Battery on a Household Member, Strangulation or Suffocation and Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,200 related to a November 2018 incident when he allegedly removed a court-ordered GPS monitor in February 2019 and fled the Commonwealth to evade prosecution. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
Adams’ whereabouts were unknown until March 11 following an interaction with law enforcement in Bibb County, Georgia. Local authorities arrested Adams and held him in custody through the Plymouth District Court warrant issued more than six years earlier.
Last week, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office arranged for two Kingston Police Officers to travel to Georgia and take custody of Adams. He was presented to a Plymouth District Court judge on Thursday. The defendant’s bail was revoked during the hearing, and he is being held in custody.
“Violent crimes are prosecuted aggressively in Plymouth County,” DA Cruz said. “Whether it was 6 minutes ago or 6 years ago, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and our partners like the Kingston Police Department will work tirelessly to bring those that commit these crimes to justice.”
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth O’Connell is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Kingston Police Department.
Adams is next scheduled to appear in court on April 22 for a pre-trial hearing.
