BROCKTON – Massachusetts State Police Detectives along with Brockton Police are investigating after a pedestrian was killed crossing North Main Street, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

At approximately 6:23 a.m. this morning, Brockton Police received a 911 call for a report of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash at North Main and Battles Streets. Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel responded and located a female victim in the roadway. The woman was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced dead of her injuries. She has been identified as Bettie Etienne, 37, of Brockton.

Brockton Police contacted Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Preliminarily, it appears that Etienne was crossing the street when she was struck by a motorist driving a Dodge Caravan. Video surveillance shows that the traffic light was green for traffic to proceed along North Main Street, and a red hand was illuminated on the pedestrian control signal. The 20-year-old male operator of the Dodge Caravan remained on scene.

The investigation is ongoing by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services and Brockton Police.
