BROCKTON – A Brockton man was arraigned in Brockton District Court today on several charges related to a shooting in broad daylight early this month, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Jake Malafronte, 23, was arraigned on charges of Assault & Battery with a Firearm, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Discharging a Firearm Within 500ft of a Building, and Possession of Ammunition Without a Firearm Identification Card. Malafronte pleaded not guilty to all charges and was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for June 12 in Brockton District Court.

On June 2 shortly after 5 p.m., Brockton Police received a report of a shooting in the area of 21 Torrey Street. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found and treated a male victim who had sustained a gunshot to the abdomen. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from nearby businesses that showed a man in a dark blue, hooded sweatshirt shoot the victim. Audio from the recovered surveillance footage indicates the shooter got into a minor argument with the victim while the victim was on a phone call. After believing the victim had addressed him, and a brief verbal exchange, the shooter seemingly pursued the victim and shot him. An employee from a nearby business informed officers he was familiar with the shooter during an interview with Brockton Police.

From the information provided, investigators identified Malafronte as a suspect in the shooting and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Malafronte subsequently surrendered himself to law enforcement on June 6.
