BROCKTON – State Police and Brockton Police found the male suspect wanted for the stabbing of his wife dead early Saturday morning, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
On Friday evening at approximately 7:54 pm, Brockton Police received a 911 call for a report of a female stabbed and in the street at 96 Otis Street. Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel responded and found the female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton where she remains in critical but stable condition.
Brockton Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. A neighborhood canvas was conducted and witnesses stated that the victim indicated that her husband, Antonio Goncalves (DOB: 02/07/70), had stabbed her. As part of the investigation, surveillance video was obtained that showed both the victim and Goncalves.
Brockton Police, State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Troop D CAT Team and K-9 conducted a search of the surrounding area and at approximately 12:20 am Saturday, Brockton Police located Goncalves, hanging from a tree in the woods. He was pronounced dead on scene at 12:31 am. In the woods, police located a weapon consistent with the injuries the female victim sustained in the stabbing.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted jurisdiction and will determine the manner and cause of death of Goncalves.
The incident remains under investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Brockton Police.
