BROCKTON – An 86-year-old man was killed this morning after a fire at his East Bridgewater home, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today.

At approximately 9:03 a.m., East Bridgewater Police received an initial 911 call for a report of a fire at a home at 4 Beaver Village Way. Several additional 911 calls were received by police subsequently. Upon arrival, East Bridgewater Police and Fire found a two-story home
fully engulfed in flames and began extinguishing the fire. The fire struck two-alarms and crews from Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Whitman, Hanson797 and Brockton responded to assist firefighting efforts.

Beside the residence, several feet away, police and fire personnel located the body of homeowner Bernadino Pellegrino (DOB: 11/19/30). He was determined deceased at the scene and East Bridgewater Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County
District Attorney’s Office and State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey’s Office to investigate.

Pellegrino and his wife, were the sole occupants home at the time of the fire. Preliminary investigative efforts indicate the fire started when a tractor lawn mower ignited and the flames spread to the victim’s clothing. The lawnmower was located near a deck attached to the home
which then caught fire. Mr. Pellegrino’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an exact manner and cause of death will be determined.

The fire remains under investigation by State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, East Bridgewater Police and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.
