BROCKTON – State Police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Brockton Police are investigating the sudden death of Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Brockton Police received a 911 call at approximately 7:29 am this morning for a report of an unresponsive male in a vehicle parked at the Arnone School. Police and emergency medical personnel responded and tended to the male victim, who was identified as Mayor Carpenter. He was transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Carpenter was at the Arnone School this morning to drop off a family member at a summer program.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted jurisdiction and will determined the exact cause and manner of death. There is no foul play suspected in the death.

“Our office sends its sincere condolences on the sudden passing of Mayor Carpenter,” DA Cruz said. “The Mayor was a true partner in our shared pursuit of public safety in the City of Brockton. A long time participant and attendee at our Operation Safe Streets community meetings, he ensured the participation and cooperation of all levels of city government, from the police to city hall, in our collaborative efforts to make the city a safer place for everyone who lives and works here.”
