BROCKTON — A jury has convicted a man in the stabbing death of an 18 year-old at a Brockton park, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz announced today. After a two and a half week trial, a jury deliberated four days before finding Anildo Lopes Correia, (DOB: 03/10/1997) guilty of one count of Voluntary Manslaughter. The Commonwealth had sought a charge of Murder against Correia. Brockton Superior Court Judge Brian Davis scheduled sentencing for May 23. At approximately 6:40 pm on April 22, 2015, Brockton Police responded to several 911 calls for a report of a stabbing at a large gathering of teens at James Edgar Park Playground in Brockton. Once on scene, police located 18 year-old Ywron Martins of Brockton, bleeding from multiple stab wounds to his face and torso. Emergency medical personnel tended to Martins and he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. Two other stabbing victims involved in the incident were treated and released from the hospital shortly after the incident. Brockton Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. As part of the investigation, police interviewed witnesses and collected evidence and Correia was identified as the assailant. Correia was arrested in Fall River by State Police on April 26, 2015, after a four-day search. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jessica Elumba and Alexander Zane, and was investigated by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Brockton Police.
