BROCKTON – State Police Detectives along with Brockton Police are investigating after one man died and another was injured when they were struck by a car, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. this morning, Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a report of two pedestrians struck in the area of Belmont and Linwood Streets. Upon arrival, first responders observed two males who had been struck by a white BMW sedan. Both men were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Sixty-two year old Joseph Driscoll of Brockton, was pronounced dead of his injuries. The other male victim, who is not being identified, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Brockton Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Preliminarily, it appears that the two men were crossing Belmont Street in a northerly direction outside of the crosswalk when they were struck by the motor vehicle. The male operator of the BMW, who is not being identified, immediately stopped his vehicle upon impact.
The investigation is ongoing by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services and Brockton Police.
