BROCKTON – Two men have been indicted on charges in connection with the stabbing death of a Brockton man, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Late Friday, a Plymouth County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Keith Disharoom, 40, and Mark Stroud, 25, both of Brockton, with one count of Murder.

The indictments follow an investigation by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police into a fatal stabbing incident which occurred on July 18, 2021. At approximately 7:38 p.m. on that date, Brockton Police received a 911 call for a report of an assault and battery with a knife happening in the vicinity of 553 North Main Street. Brockton Police and medical personnel arrived on scene and located a male victim, unresponsive, with two stab wounds to his upper chest. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital before being transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. He was identified as Eric J. Cohen, 44, formerly of Holbrook.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Through witness interviews and video surveillance review, investigators determined that an altercation took place between the victim and Disharoom. During that altercation, Disharoom allegedly stabbed Cohen, while Stroud allegedly struck Cohen’s service dog, as well as a nearby woman, with a bat.

Stroud was additionally indicted on one count each of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Cruelty to Animals.

The men will be arraigned in Brockton Superior Court at a later date.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joshua Gedraitis.
