Massachusetts State Police, Marshfield Police, Norwell Police Investigating Fatal Crash That Left Teen Dead, Two Others Injured

BROCKTON – Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding an overnight single motor vehicle crash that left one teen dead, and two others hospitalized with serious injuries, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz, Marshfield Police Chief Phillip Tavares and Norwell Police Chief Edward Lee have announced.

At approximately 12:43 a.m. this morning, Marshfield Police received a call for a single car motor vehicle crash into a tree 172 Forest Street. Marshfield Police and Fire responded and located three male occupants trapped inside the motor vehicle. The 16 year-old operator was removed from the wreck and taken to South Shore Hospital before he was re-routed to Children’s Hospital in Boston for treatment. Marshfield Fire Department worked to extricate the two passengers. A 16 year-old male was transported to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries. A 17 year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Nicholas Wanderley of Norwell.

Marshfield Police contacted Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced. Preliminarily, it appears the motor vehicle was traveling south on Forest Street when it crossed the double yellow line and struck a tree.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation by Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Marshfield Police, Norwell Police, and members of the MSP CSS and MSP-CARS Units.
